MOUNT SHASTA, CALIFORNIA — A CHP sergeant stopped a semi-truck traveling 75 mph on a California highway earlier this month — 20 mph over the state's 55 mph speed limit for commercial vehicles with three or more axles — and discovered the driver was under the influence of drugs.

CHP Mount Shasta Division said the sergeant initiated the traffic stop after clocking the truck well above the legal limit for commercial vehicles. Upon contacting the driver, it was determined he was driving while impaired by drugs.

CHP used the stop to remind commercial drivers that impaired driving extends beyond alcohol. "Impaired driving can be more than just drinking. Please drive sober," CHP said.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
