Arizona Trooper Stops Pickup Hauling Heavy Construction Equipment — No CDL, No Medical Card, No USDOT Number, CDL Driver Was Waiting at Destination
MESA, ARIZONA — An Arizona Highway Patrol trooper stopped a pickup truck hauling a piece of heavy construction equipment on AZ-202 near Warner Road on June 23, 2026, and found the driver had no commercial driver's license, no medical card, and no USDOT number — while a CDL driver was apparently waiting at the destination for the load to arrive.
According to AZDPS, the driver was transporting the heavy load from Phoenix to a job site at Tempe Marketplace, where a licensed CDL driver was said to be waiting. The inspection also revealed the trailer's breakaway device was inoperative.
Both the driver and the vehicle were placed out of service until a licensed CDL driver could take over and the necessary repairs could be made.
"No CDL = No commercial driving," AZDPS said, adding dryly: "Seems it couldn't wait? Now it takes longer."
