Crash on I-95 in Burlington, Massachusetts Sends One to Hospital and Spills Diesel

A serious crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle caused major disruptions on Thursday morning, June 5, 2025, in Burlington, Massachusetts, shutting down lanes on both sides of Interstate 95.
The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of I-95 northbound and Route 3, prompting a large emergency response from Massachusetts State Police and fire crews.
Authorities confirmed that a person in the passenger car was transported to Lahey Hospital with serious injuries. The collision also caused several large metal plates from the tractor-trailer’s load to fall onto both sides of the highway, further complicating the scene.
Approximately 28 gallons of diesel fuel were spilled when the truck came to rest in the median and began leaking, according to police. Fire crews remained on site to contain the leak, which was fully secured by 9:15 a.m.
The driver of the semi, George Goffredo, shared that he had been listening to a Catholic Mass and praying the rosary when the crash occurred.
“I figured I had a long drive, I put it on and I listened to the Mass and was actually saying the rosary when the accident happened,” Goffredo said. “And when I was done, it was still saying the rosary.”
All metal debris was cleared from the highway by 7:40 a.m., but northbound lanes remained partially closed for hours due to the diesel spill.
The crash is still under investigation by Massachusetts State Police.
