Troopers responded to the crash around 9:37 a.m. near the 26.7-mile marker, where they found a passenger vehicle heavily damaged after striking a semi-truck. The semi sustained no damage, but officials say the car is believed to be totaled due to the severity of the impact.

Witnesses later confirmed that the car’s driver was a 21-year-old man. They said that after the truck stopped, bystanders rushed toward the vehicle — and the young driver gave a thumbs up through the window to show that he was okay. He then opened the door and exited the vehicle on his own, without assistance.
